Free for Valentine’s Day, enjoy this hot short short, Be Mine, which is the follow up to Bottoms Up! The story follows LaSara and Danny a bit further into their relationship, and how they manage to stay entertained during a winter storm. Hmmm, what do you think happens?
Check it out at Smashwords and ARe, along with Bottoms Up!
A while I noted that the comic strip Funky Winkerbean touched on I/R romance with a BW/WM relationship. I sort of lost track of that storyline, but this evening it was brought to my attention I/R is making the comic book circuit as well. Check this out: could it be our friend Archie has decided not to choose between Betty and Veronica, but is now after one of the Pussycats? I saw it on the Archie website, and you’re seeing it here. That’s a kiss, folks! Now, I haven’t read Archie comics since I was in grade school (don’t recall seeing a lot of Josie stories, though I remember there was a cartoon), and I’d read all the hoopla surrounding the “Archie marries Veronica” thing, so this cover presents a very interesting development. I may just have to pick up this issue for myself.
Yes, I finally jumped off that bridge. I’ve had the Twitter account for a while – hadn’t done much with it because I’ve been writing. I realize, though, I need to concentrate on promo as well. So the other day I signed on for Facebook. You can be my friend there if you like. I also set up a fan page for Interracial Romance, which I hope you will join. It’s connected to another site whose URLs I purchased recently. The original owner was unable to upkeep, so I’m taking over and rebooting to a new site, mainly a place where people can buy I/R romances. I’m still trying to figure out how to get more eBooks up there, so we’ll see how it goes. I love the genre and am happy to help promote my fellow writers!

So I’ve had this short interracial menage in my “shelved” folder for a while – one of those stories you know would be hot in the right editing hands, but you weren’t quite sure what to do with it. Since I have a good thing going with Phaze Books now, one title out and at least two on the way, I thought to send it my editor for an opinion. To my great pleasure, she loved it and offered a contract. Only thing is, the next available slot on the schedule was a bit too far away for my tastes.
I have We All Scream coming out next month, and Single Ladies in 2010, but it seems like there’s been a huge gap since Drawn to You came out. In romance publishing especially, I realize the importance of building that backlist and keeping readers alert. I know some eBook authors who have a new release every month – all novel length! I applaud their dedication and wish I had the time to be so prolific. To do that, I need to sell more books, and consequently write more. What a Catch-22!
So Better Than Chocolate, this menage, I wanted out sooner, and luckily my editor proposed an alternative – to release it independently through her private imprint, DLP Books. There are advantages to doing this – there will still be distribution through the regular eBook channels, and I’ll be helping her too by providing a new name and a title so DLP can distribute through channels that require five authors or ten titles. In the meantime, I can continue to write for submission to other houses, too. In fact, Phaze is interested in a BDSM short I proposed earlier, so we’ll see how that goes.
You may be able to get Better Than Chocolate very soon, hope you find it sweet and satisfying!
Here’s a sneak peek at the cover for my upcoming MMF interracial erotic romance, Sunny! I’ll have more details on the story soon, including when and where you’ll be able to buy it.
In the meantime, I’m finished with We All Scream and an excited for the pending release through Phaze Books. Need to touch up Single Ladies, and then it’s on to the next story. I’m still debating on NaNoWriMo, I have a great idea for it, but we’ll see how things play out.
I promise!
I am now putting the finishing touches on We All Scream, my next release from Phaze Books. Then it’s off to polish Single Ladies edits, and then NaNoWriMo! I have an amazing idea for my NaNo novel. I can’t wait to get started on it. It will be interracial romance, of course, but something a bit different from the contemporaries I’m doing now. Hope you like it.
Just got word Drawn to You ranked third for the top selling books at Phaze Books for July! Thank you so much for your support! I’m finishing edits on We All Scream for a late 2009 release, then on to Single Ladies and another WIP. Woo hoo!
Here it is, my cover for Single Ladies, my story in the Phaze Rocks line. This is sort of a sequel to Drawn to You, in that the story is related loosely to the first one.
If you read Drawn to You, you know Shay draws a cartoon strip called Single Ladies. This next story skips forward a bit to a television adaptation of the strip, and the romantic entanglements of the actors involved. I can’t wait!
Recently I read and enjoyed Leigh Ellwood’s blog post on how the Oscars will have ten Best Picture nominees this year. I’m inspired to blog about movies myself, but on a different topic.
What do the Oscars have to do with interracial romance? It may surprise you to know that a number of films with interracial relationship themes have taken home at least one little golden man. While we didn’t see much of it this past year, there are a few connections. We had the film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, which involves flirtation and play between Hispanic and Caucasian characters, and Best Actor nominee Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon) was once in a very publicized relationship with Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg. Here are some other examples:
- Halle Berry received her Best Actress award for Monster’s Ball, about an African-American woman in a tense yet explosive romance with a white prison guard.
- Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner involves a white family’s reaction to their daughter’s intention to marry a black doctor
- The Joy Luck Club – a study of relationships between Chinese women and their mothers also touches on interracial marriage of many of the characters
- Tamango is a little-known film featuring Dorothy Dandridge in love with a white doctor
I think we’ll see interracial relations come more into play as more movies made.
